3 Steps to Reduce White Spot Formation When You Wear Braces
What is a white spot?
These ‘white spots’ are the result of demineralization of your teeth. This usually occurs around braces when you fail to take proper care of your teeth. During the time braces are attached to the teeth, bacteria could accumulate around your teeth causing them to harden on the surface and cause irreversible white spots on your teeth. They cannot be removed once they are formed, however their growth can be curbed in order to maintain a proper appearance.
Ways to Remove White Spots from Your Teeth
Let’s look at some of the ways that white spots can be removed from your teeth:
Brushing
While wearing braces, one should brush their teeth 2-3 times in a day. This might sound tedious, but hear me out. Your teeth are especially vulnerable to corrosion when you are wearing braces, just because of crooks and crannies that form under the gaps in the mechanics of the braces. This enables food to be trapped between them and rot on your teeth over time. So, what did we learn? Brushing teeth multiple times in a day while wearing braces is ACTUALLY beneficial.
Flossing
Flossing. Indians are not really privy to the idea of flossing teeth. Still considered a western practice, flossing is quite unpopular. However, contrary to popular belief, flossing is an amazing oral hygiene practice. Removing the excess build up between your teeth could be the difference between a dashing teeth alignment once braces are removed.
Use a Fluoride-Based Mouthwash
Use a fluoride based mouthwash. Using toothpastes are quite enough on their own to be honest, however, there are certain times when extra hands are required. Enter mouthwash. These are quite beneficial to reducing the formation of white spots that will eventually warrant an overall beneficial oral hygiene.
Regular Dentist Visits
Orthodontists wish to drill in you (pun intended), the fact that you should be extra careful to treat your teeth while under the effects of braces. In addition to these you should always visit your dentist once every month to get a report on how your braces are turning up. Keep smiling.
